Aceite que, absorto em assuntos pessoais mesquinhos, você esqueceu o que você é; tentar trazer de volta a memória perdida através da eliminação do conhecido.

A mente está interessada no que acontece, enquanto a conscientidade está interessada na própria mente. A criança está atrás do brinquedo, mas a mãe observa a criança, não o brinquedo.

Afinal, não existe tal mente enquanto separada de pensamentos que vêm e vão obedecendo às suas próprias leis, não às de você. Eles dominam você apenas porque você está interessado neles. É exatamente como Cristo disse: “Não resista ao mal”. Ao resistir ao mal, você apenas o fortalece.

Uma vez que você conhece sua mente e seus poderes milagrosos, e remove o que a envenenou – a ideia de uma pessoa separada e isolada – você simplesmente a deixa em paz para fazer seu trabalho entre as coisas para as quais ela é adequada. Manter a mente em seu próprio lugar e em seu próprio trabalho é a liberação da mente.

Alimentar as ideias: “Sou pecador, não sou pecador” é pecado. Identificar-se com o particular é todo o pecado que existe. O impessoal é real, o pessoal aparece e desaparece.

Ser um ser vivo não é o estado último: há algo além, muito mais maravilhoso, que não é nem ser nem não ser, nem vivo nem não vivo. É um estado de pura conscientidade, além das limitações de espaço e tempo. Uma vez abandonada a ilusão de que se é corpo-mente, a morte perde seu terror, torna-se parte da vida.

No grande espelho da conscientidade surgem e desaparecem imagens, e só a memória lhes dá continuidade. E a memória é material — destrutível, perecível, transitória. Sobre fundações tão frágeis, construímos um senso de existência pessoal — vago, intermitente, onírico. Essa vaga persuasão: “Sou fulano de tal” obscurece o estado imutável da pura consciência e nos faz acreditar que nascemos para sofrer e morrer.

Todo mundo vê o mundo através da ideia que tem de si mesmo... Se você se imaginar separado do mundo, o mundo parecerá separado de você e você experimentará desejo e medo. Eu não vejo o mundo como separado de mim, então não há nada para eu desejar ou temer.

A sabedoria está em nunca esquecer o eu como a fonte sempre presente tanto do experimentador quanto de sua experiência.

What happens to the body and the mind may not be within your power to change, but you can always put an end to your imagining yourself to be body and mind. Whatever happens, remind yourself that only your body and mind are affected, not yourself.

Spiritual maturity lies in the readiness to let go of everything. The giving up is the first step. But the real giving up is in realizing that there is nothing to give up, for nothing is your own. It is like deep sleep—you do not give up your bed when you fall asleep, you just forget it.

Accept that, engrossed in petty personal affairs, you have forgotten what you are; try to bring back the lost memory through the elimination of the known.

Mind is interested in what happens, while awareness is interested in the mind itself. The child is after the toy, but the mother watches the child, not the toy.

After all, there is no such thing as mind apart from thoughts which come and go obeying their own laws, not yours. They dominate you only because you are interested in them. It is exactly as Christ said “Resist not evil.” By resisting evil, you merely strengthen it.

Once you know your mind and its miraculous powers, and remove what poisoned it—the idea of a separate and isolated person—you just leave it alone to do its work among things for which it is well suited. To keep the mind in its own place and on its own work is the liberation of the mind.

Remember, you cannot abandon what you do not know. To go beyond yourself, you must know yourself.

To nourish the ideas: “I am a sinner, I am not a sinner,” is a sin. To identify oneself with the particular is all the sin there is. The impersonal is real, the personal appears and disappears.

To be a living being is not the ultimate state: there is something beyond, much more wonderful, which is neither being nor non-being, neither living nor non-living. It is a state of pure awareness, beyond the limitations of space and time. Once the illusion that the body-mind is oneself is abandoned, death loses its terror, it becomes a part of living.

In the great mirror of consciousness images arise and disappear, and only memory gives them continuity. And memory is material—destructible, perishable, transient. On such flimsy foundations we build a sense of personal existence—vague, intermittent, dreamlike. This vague persuasion: “I am so and so” obscures the changeless state of pure awareness and makes us believe that we are born to suffer and to die.

Everybody sees the world through the idea he has of himself... If you imagine yourself as separate from the world, the world will appear as separate from you and you will experience desire and fear. I do not see the world as separate from me, and so there is nothing for me to desire or fear.

Wisdom lies in never forgetting the self as the ever-present source of both the experiencer and his experience.
